Purpose of the position The COO will have full P&L and operational oversight for BSI China’s following business streams: • System Certification • Training • Food The role will lead operational delivery, technical review, sales and marketing coordination for the above-mentioned businesses within China. Key priorities include commercial delivery of the sales and marketing plans as well as the cost effective operational delivery of our enhanced businesses. The individual will be integral in delivering and tracking against the Greater China strategic plan. He/she will ensure that the strategies for the business align with Regional and Group expectations. This individual is expected to provide the leadership, drive and energy necessary to ensure that the potential of the business is fully realised. The incumbent will be a key member of the Greater China leadership team and engage directly with functional leadership within Greater China, Asia Pacific and across the BSI global matrix. Organizational Scope/Responsibility: The geographic scope of the role covers China with approximately 200 employees. Reporting directly to this position includes:  VP Operations & Risk Management;  Director, Training Services;  Director, Food Indirect functional role reporting to this position includes:  Director, Sales and Marketing Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities The incumbent will have full operational and profit responsibility operational delivery and training areas. His/her responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following: • Directly lead the business to deliver sustained and significant profitable growth in key strategic area of Assurance and core sectors including Automotive and Aerospace. • Drive the certification, training and Food business plans • Coordinate with the sales and marketing teams in establishing and delivering goals and priority initiatives that drive increased market penetration and growth. • Effectively manage all key financial measures of the business; anticipating cost needs and all other aspects of planning, including the annual budgeting, forecasting and strategic review processes for the region • Ensure that the organization makes full use of the product portfolio, to maximise growth opportunities within the region • Build senior level relationships with customers to support existing business and developing potential growth opportunities. • Direct the business to ensure that they comply with BSI policy and legal requirements and thereby protects the BSI reputation and intellectual property • To develop regular client contacts in order to ensure a stronger working relationship and thereby maximizing future revenue generation opportunities for the whole business. • Recruit, train, develop and integrate employees and subcontractors into a cohesive operating unit. • Develop a strong leadership team capable of delivering an ambitious growth strategy and leading the development and implementation of human resources strategies that will ensure the recruitment, development and retention of the highest calibre professionals and leaders at all levels of the business. Ensure that team utilises, directs and develops their respective employees in order to ensure effective use of resources. • Maintain the regional quality plan(s) and to ensure that all customer contact procedures are in line with ISO 17021 requirements/regulatory compliance. Impact and Orientation: • Builds Organizational Capability and Organizational resilience • People and Leadership Development • Focus on the Customer • Impact and Influence • Commercial competence Experience Profile: Knowledge / Skills / Abilities • Ability to manage within a matrix structure. • Experience of leading a virtual professional & technical workforce • A demonstrable record of implementing change and delivering continuous improvement through business process re-engineering. • A proven record of accomplishment in selling solutions-oriented services within a diverse portfolio to major accounts. • Strong commercial business acumen; a good insight of industry, systems and technology driven solutions. • Strong general management & leadership skills in the areas of project delivery, people, P&L, expense and influence. • Ability to build an effective team and demonstrate clear leadership skills. • A proven track record in developing and executing business strategies. • Demonstrated ability to forge relationships with senior level decision makers in target client organizations. • A sound understanding of all standard financial and management accounting procedures is required. • Ability to develop effective relationships, and therefore operate successfully at all levels, within and outside the organisation • Good executive level communication and presentation skills.
